MEXICO LIFTS TARIFFS ON U.S. GOODS

Effective Oct. 21 Mexico has lifted the remaining 50% of the sanctions it had levied against imports of 99 U.S. products in retaliation for Washington’s failure to comply with a NAFTA requirement that the U.S. allow Mexican long-haul trucks to operate in the U.S. The removal of the remaining tariffs followed the Oct. 14 approval by the Department of Transportation of the first Mexican trucking line to participate in a three-year pilot program allowing U.S. and Mexican trucks to operate throughout each other’s territory. A notice from the government of Mexico said the duties could be reinstated if the pilot program is canceled.

As a result of Mexico’s action, the following U.S. goods will no longer face tariffs when imported into Mexico. The amount of the retaliatory tariffs in effect before Mexico began reducing them earlier this year is noted in parentheses.
